Jean-Louis Andral: 10 Masterpieces from the Nahmad Collection
Category: Jeans Collection

This book, curated by Jean-Louis Andral, Director of the Picasso Museum in Antibes, with photographs by François Halard, is related to the Collection Nahmad exhibition, featuring ten masterpieces currently on display at the Picasso Museum in Antibes until October 31, 2021.
The museum offers a unique experience: on the first floor, ten magnificent works from one of the world's most important private collections, the Nahmad collection, are presented. This includes nine famous paintings by Pablo Picasso from 1905 to 1971, and a 1954 canvas by Mark Rothko facing Nicolas de Staël's Concert. Picasso is in his element here, in Antibes, like being with a loved one. Rothko visits for the first time, resonating with his large fields of intangible shades alongside the harmonious echoes of another color virtuoso's final chromatic chords.
Each room displays only one artwork, sometimes two. Unlike traditional exhibitions that gather and combine pieces, this is not about accumulation, but about concentration and reception of the object in its singularity for contemplation and interpretation. Each room becomes the setting for one motif of meditation or subtle dialogue, offering optimal conditions for the viewer to gaze upon the painting and truly absorb it.
More than an exhibition, this is an installation in the ever-changing space of the museum galleries, creating an original encounter between a work of art and architecture, bathed in their respective lights. A unique ten-step journey to share the exact beauty of these paintings.
